On the sidelines of the current session of the Human Rights Council (HRC), Minister of Justice Dr. Abdullah Mohammed Dirif met with the Council’s President and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Indonesia to the United Nations, Ambassador Sidharto Reza Suryodipuro.
The Minister briefed the Council President on the human rights situation in Sudan, detailing grave violations and systematic attacks perpetrated by the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia against civilians. He outlined national measures to protect civilians, reinforce the rule of law, and strengthen judicial institutions, underscoring the imperative of supporting national accountability mechanisms, ensuring justice for victims, and preventing impunity.
Dr. Dirif reaffirmed Sudan’s commitment to constructive engagement with the Council and its mechanisms operating in the country, including the Country Office and the designated Expert. He also conveyed Sudan’s aspiration to expand capacity-building program for national mechanisms, particularly in the collection, preservation, and analysis of digital forensic evidence, as well as in strengthening institutional capabilities.
For his part, the HRC President commended Sudan’s constructive cooperation and stressed the importance of sustained coordination in support of national efforts to promote and protect human rights.
