Ministry of Culture Renews Announcement of Financial Reward for Returning Antiquities or Providing Information on Their Whereabouts

The Ministry of Culture, Information and Tourism has renewed its announcement of a financial reward for anyone who hands over antiquities in their possession or provides accurate information on their locations, as part of state efforts to protect cultural heritage and recover plundered Sudanese artifacts.
The renewed announcement comes days after remarks by Minister of Culture, Information and Tourism Khalid Al-Eisir in Port Sudan on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, during an event marking the recovery of a large number of Sudanese antiquities that had been ransacked—570 rare artifacts in total. The minister affirmed that the recovery represents a victory for national identity and the safeguarding of Sudan’s civilizational memory.

In his address, the minister said: “We issue a sincere and reassuring call to every citizen who has found or is in possession of antiquities. The state extends its hand in trust and responsibility and makes clear that handing over these artifacts through legal channels is a noble national act that contributes to protecting Sudan’s history and preserving its civilizational memory as a shared right, not owned by any individual but inherited by generations. On this important national occasion, we reaffirm the state’s commitment to rewarding any citizen who hands over antiquities in their possession or provides information on their locations, should they have such knowledge, with a financial reward in appreciation of their efforts.”
The ministry’s press office reiterated the announcement of the financial reward, underscoring the ministry’s commitment to strengthening the protection of national heritage and encouraging community participation in safeguarding Sudan’s cultural legacy.
The ministry further stated that this initiative forms part of broader efforts to enhance community partnership and constitutes an open invitation to all citizens to contribute to the protection of Sudan’s cultural heritage for future generations.
