Khartoum, (Nabaa Sudan) – Engineer Osman Mirghani, spokesperson for the Committee for Creating an Enabling Environment, Building Confidence and Conducting Preliminary Consultations for the Sudanese Dialogue, said the committee could consult with “40 million Sudanese,” stressing that its consultations are open to all Sudanese without exclusion.
Speaking during the committee’s consultative meeting with media professionals at the Omdurman Cultural Center on Thursday, Mirghani explained that the committee does not ask political parties whether they are registered or unregistered, nor does it deal with them according to their political status. Rather, it engages with any party willing to sit down, express its views or put forward an idea.
He noted that opening the consultations to all Sudanese does not necessarily mean that everyone will participate in the final dialogue in the same manner. He explained that determining eligibility for participation and how the various parties will be represented will be the responsibility of another committee, the “Dialogue Assessment Committee.” He added that the committee will work to reach agreement among the dialogue parties on the basis and modalities of participation, while the role of the current committee remains to reach out to the various components and listen to their views “without exception or exclusion.”
Mirghani stressed that the Sudanese dialogue should not be confined to a group of political forces, but should provide an opportunity for various segments of Sudanese society to participate in the consultations and put forward their views on the country’s future.
