The President of the Republic of South Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit, received the Vice-President of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), Malik Agar, who conveyed to him the greetings of TSC President General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan.
During the meeting, the TSC Vice-President briefed President Kiir on the military, humanitarian, and political situation in Sudan, reaffirming Sudan’s desire for South Sudan to play an active and central role in efforts to restore peace. The discussions also addressed issues related to the national security of both countries and ways to strengthen security and stability between them.
As part of his visit to Juba, the TSC Vice-President held meetings with South Sudan’s Minister of Interior, the Inspector General of Police, the Directors of Internal and External Security, and the Director of Military Intelligence. The meetings focused on bilateral security coordination, underscoring the importance of joint efforts to end the war in Sudan and prevent its spillover into the wider region.
He stressed that the challenges facing Sudan are similar to those previously experienced by South Sudan, noting that cooperation between the two countries serves the interests of their peoples, enhances stability, and supports progress and prosperity.
The TSC Vice-President said his visit aims to engage with the South Sudanese leadership and began with meetings with the Ministers of Cabinet Affairs, Justice, Information, and Peace. He briefed them on developments in Sudan’s humanitarian situation and progress in the return of government institutions to the capital, Khartoum.
He also discussed issues related to executive coordination and called for the activation of the Joint Ministerial Committee. At the conclusion of the meetings, he commended the resilience of the Sudanese people and highlighted the role of neighbouring countries in political initiatives aimed at resolving the Sudan crisis. He further stressed the importance of Sudan’s return to the African Union to ensure that solutions are pursued within the African framework.
Separately, the TSC Vice-President met with the South Sudanese National Security Advisor, briefing him on the latest developments in Sudan.
