The Sudan Doctors Network said that 24 people were killed — including women and eight children, two of them infants — and others were injured after Rapid Support Forces (RSF) fighters targeted a vehicle transporting displaced civilians from Debeikir area to the city of Al-Rahad in North Kordofan State, as they were fleeing from South Kordofan.
The network stated that the wounded were transferred to Al-Rahad for treatment amid severe health and humanitarian conditions and a sharp shortage of medical resources.
The Sudan Doctors Network described the targeting of defenceless civilians and their means of transport as a fully-fledged war crime and a violation of international humanitarian law, holding the RSF militia fully responsible for the massacre and its humanitarian consequences.
It called on the international community and human rights organizations to take urgent action to protect civilians, hold RSF leaders accountable, and ensure safe displacement routes and unhindered delivery of humanitarian assistance.
