Minister of Energy Counsellor Al-Mu’tasim Ibrahim Ahmed held talks with Egyptian Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Dr. Mahmoud Esmat on strengthening cooperation in the fields of electricity and renewable energy, as well as the reconstruction of Sudan’s power network infrastructure, in support of the developmental objectives of the two brotherly countries.
The Cairo discussions covered the development of a technical roadmap for rebuilding and rehabilitating Sudan’s electricity networks and securing power supply for residential, industrial, and agricultural sectors across the states. The talks also reviewed avenues for bolstering partnership in training and network rehabilitation, in addition to completing the second phase of the Sudan–Egypt electricity interconnection project, “Toshka 2 – Wadi Halfa,” with a capacity of 300 megawatts.
The Sudanese minister commended Egypt’s supportive positions, noting that the partnership will contribute to economic stability and meeting citizens’ energy needs.
For his part, the Egyptian minister stressed the depth of Sudanese–Egyptian relations and outlined the capabilities of Egypt’s electricity and renewable energy sector, including its experience in rehabilitation, construction, and knowledge transfer, while reaffirming support for Sudan through the provision of power transformers, mobile support units, and the expansion of solar energy projects.
