The Surveillance and Information Department of the General Directorate of Public Health Emergencies and Epidemic Control at the Federal Ministry of Health convened its two-day annual review meeting on Sunday in Kassala, held under the theme: “Building a Resilient Health System through Effective Data Management and Strategic Leadership.”
In his opening address, Dr. Al-Fadil Mohammed Mahmoud, Acting Director of the General Directorate of Public Health Emergencies and Epidemic Control, affirmed that Sudan’s surveillance and information system has remained operational and effective, ensuring the timely delivery of reports on incidents and epidemics and enabling sound, evidence-based health decision-making — despite the profound challenges imposed by the war.
Dr. Mahmoud highlighted the distinguished efforts of federal and state personnel who continued their work under extremely difficult circumstances, and he acknowledged the substantial contribution of international partners and United Nations agencies, foremost among them the World Health Organization (WHO).
For his part, Dr. Mohammed Al-Hafiz, WHO Representative, underscored that the surveillance and information system stands as the spearhead and genuine driver of public health. He noted that its crucial role has re-emerged during the war and reaffirmed the WHO’s readiness to provide all necessary support to the Ministry of Health in this vital field.
