Khartoum, (Nabaa Sudan) – Sudan participated in the Conference of States Parties to the Arab Convention against Corruption, held in Doha from September 21 to 23, with a delegation headed by Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice and Head of the Legal Sector, Ali Khidr, and comprising Head of the Anti-Corruption Commission Lt. Gen. Abdeen Al-Tahir and Representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Abdul-Azim Al-Karouri.
In his address, the head of the delegation affirmed that Sudan is a state party to the Anti-Corruption Convention and has fulfilled all its international and regional obligations in combating corruption, thanks to the efforts of the judicial and law-enforcement authorities and all state institutions. He reviewed Sudan’s extensive experience in combating corruption, the steps it has taken to implement the Arab Convention against Corruption, and its efforts to develop its national mechanisms through the establishment of the Anti-Corruption Commission and the recovery of public funds.
The conference discussed ways to coordinate and strengthen joint Arab efforts to combat corruption and promote justice, integrity, and transparency through developing relevant legislation, improving the performance of national institutions and systems responsible for implementing such legislation, and enhancing the exchange of expertise among them to achieve tangible results, strengthen effective implementation, and develop follow-up mechanisms by drawing on available expertise in Arab countries while incorporating modern monitoring and evaluation tools.
The conference also discussed a number of issues related to combating corruption, including codes of conduct, their implementation in practice, and their impact on the public sector, in addition to the challenges and opportunities involved in facilitating access to information.
It also discussed the relationship between parliamentary councils and anti-corruption bodies.
