Sudan’s Delegation Concludes Participation in Fifth UN Chiefs of Police Summit in New York

The Sudanese delegation, led by Interior Minister Lt. Gen. Babiker Samra Mustafa and Director General of the Sudan Police Force, General (Police) Amir Abdel Moneim Fadl, concluded its participation in the Fifth United Nations Chiefs of Police Summit (UNCOPS 2026), held at United Nations Headquarters in New York. The summit brought together interior ministers, police chiefs, and senior security officials from around the world.

On the sidelines of the summit, the Sudanese delegation held a series of bilateral meetings with international officials and counterparts from sister and friendly countries, including interior and security ministers, senior UN Police leaders, and other United Nations officials. The discussions focused on strengthening police and security cooperation, exchanging expertise, building institutional capacity, and supporting Sudan's efforts to rehabilitate and modernize its policing institutions while enhancing their technical and training capabilities.

During the meetings, the Interior Minister briefed participants on the latest developments in Sudan and the challenges facing state institutions as a result of the ongoing conflict. He outlined the damage to the country's infrastructure and public services, as well as the government's efforts to restore essential services and reinforce security and the rule of law.

The delegation also explored opportunities for cooperation with several partner countries in police training, counterterrorism, combating organized crime, cybersecurity, civil registration, forensic science, demining, and strengthening the technical and technological capacities of law enforcement agencies.

The meetings resulted in positive understandings on expanding bilateral cooperation, continuing training programs and exchanges of expertise, and activating joint coordination mechanisms to advance mutual interests and contribute to regional security and stability. The delegation also received assurances from several international partners of their continued support for Sudan in humanitarian, technical, and policing fields, as well as enhanced cooperation with Sudanese state institutions during the coming period.

The delegation further met with a number of United Nations officials to discuss ways of strengthening cooperation with UN bodies responsible for law enforcement and counterterrorism, while supporting Sudan's participation in relevant international initiatives and programs.

At the conclusion of the visit, the Sudanese delegation expressed its appreciation for the efforts of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Sudan to the United Nations, led by Ambassador Al-Harith Idris, Sudan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, for the support and coordination that contributed to the success of the visit and the achievement of its objectives.
