Sudan’s Permanent Envoy in Geneva Opens “Civilization of Sudan” Exhibition Marking 60 Years of Swiss Archaeological Research

The Permanent Representative of Sudan in Geneva, Ambassador Hassan Hamid, addressed the opening ceremony of the exhibition “Civilization of Sudan,” held to mark the 60th anniversary of Swiss archaeological research under the theme: “Memories and Impressions: Sixty Years of Swiss Archaeological Research in Sudan.”

The opening was attended by Swiss archaeologist Professor Charles Bonnet, alongside researchers and academics, as well as representatives of Swiss scientific institutions and universities, in addition to members of the Sudanese community.

In his remarks, the ambassador praised Professor Bonnet’s longstanding contributions to the study of Sudanese civilization, particularly the Kingdom of Kerma, highlighting his role in showcasing its historical depth and its connections with regional civilizations.

He also referred to the damage inflicted on Sudan’s cultural heritage as a result of attacks on museums, noting ongoing efforts in cooperation with UNESCO to recover artifacts and restore museums. He further stressed the importance of resuming archaeological missions and protecting Sudan’s cultural heritage.
