Sudan’s UN-Geneva Envoy Meets UNHCR Leaders to Strengthen Refugee Response Amid Funding Gaps

On the sidelines of the World Refugee Forum, Sudan’s Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva, Ambassador Hassan Hamid, met with Mamadou Dian, UNHCR Regional Director for East Africa, the Horn of Africa, and the Great Lakes, and Ms. Marie-Hélène, UNHCR Country Director for Sudan.

The meeting focused on ensuring an effective response to the urgent needs of refugees, voluntary returnees, and host communities, amid funding shortfalls affecting UNHCR’s emergency response plan.

Ambassador Hamid also reviewed the Sudanese government’s ongoing humanitarian efforts, including accelerated coordination of international aid via the Supreme Committee for Humanitarian Emergencies, and interventions across multiple states through the Humanitarian Aid Commission and the Commissioner for Refugees, despite limited resources.
