Yemen Announces Termination of Joint Defense Agreement with UAE, Orders Immediate Withdrawal of Its Forces

President of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Al-Elaimi, announced on Tuesday the termination of the joint defense agreement with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and called on all UAE forces to withdraw from Yemeni territory within 24 hours.

Al-Elaimi also declared a state of emergency across the country for 90 days and imposed an air and land blockade on ports and border crossings for 72 hours, after confirming that the UAE had shipped two weapons-laden vessels to the port of Al‑Mukalla.

He urged the Southern Transitional Council to withdraw from Hadhramaut and Al‑Mahrah and ordered the “National Shield” forces to take control of all military camps in the two governorates.

Furthermore, Al-Elaimi directed the formation of a liaison committee comprising the state leadership and political factions to contain the escalation, protect civilians, and prevent the use of weapons to impose facts on the ground
