Cairo, (Nabaa Sudan) – Spokesperson for the Sudanese-Sudanese Dialogue Preparatory Committee, Othman Mirghani, disclosed the outcomes of a meeting held in Cairo last Thursday with seven ambassadors of European Union (EU) countries responsible for the Sudan dossier, as well as the EU Ambassador to Sudan, all of whom are based in Cairo.
Mirghani said the several-hour meeting had been arranged in advance to present the committee’s vision and exchange views on how to benefit from previous international initiatives.
In press statements, he said the committee received a commitment from EU countries to support the principle of a Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue under exclusive Sudanese ownership, in addition to supporting the Dialogue Preparatory Committee. He said there was also an affirmation that the Sudanese crisis can only be resolved through a Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue table that addresses the elements of the crisis and reaches common conclusions among the genuine stakeholders.
Mirghani stressed that cooperation with the international community is limited to technical cooperation and the exchange of expertise to prepare for the dialogue and support the post-war nation-building phase, without any influence or tutelage over the dialogue agenda, which will remain exclusively Sudanese and be set by the Sudanese parties.
He noted that the committee had initiated successful international contacts, including a meeting with the Norwegian Ambassador in Khartoum, while meetings with the Egyptian and Saudi ambassadors are expected to be held in the coming days. The committee also welcomed a post by U.S. President’s Senior Adviser Massad Boulos calling for a Sudanese dialogue led and managed by Sudanese.
