Northern State (Nabaa Sudan) – Al-Borgaig Locality received a joint British-Sudanese engineering and heritage delegation on Tuesday, headed by British architect Michael Mallinson, to discuss heritage documentation and tourism development projects in the locality.
The delegation, which included heritage expert and engineer Asaad Babiker and Director of the Kerma Civilisation Museum Abdel-Majid Mahmoud, held a meeting with Deputy Executive Director of the locality, Motasem Mahmoud, in the presence of the locality’s police chief, the Director of Security and Intelligence, and the Director of Tourism. The meeting was followed by an extensive workshop with the locality’s various departments.
Deputy Executive Director Motasem Mahmoud said the project represented a key pillar in preserving heritage and civilisational identity and was befitting of Al-Borgaig’s standing as a tourist destination. He affirmed the locality’s openness to partnerships capable of bringing about a qualitative transformation.
For his part, the Director of the Kerma Civilisation Museum explained that the initiative aimed to ensure that the locality received its fair share of development projects commensurate with its historical significance and to unify visions for sustainable tourism development.
Heritage expert Asaad Babiker noted that the visit was exploratory in nature, with the aim of assessing smart community projects and presenting the experience of the “Peace Park in Kassala” as a model that could be implemented in the locality.
