Sudan’s Minerals Minister Discusses Cooperation with Chinese ‎Company to Develop Atbara Laboratories

KHARTOUM (Nabaa Sudan) – Minister of Minerals Nour Al-Daem Taha ‎discussed with representatives of China’s MOTU Holdings ‎opportunities for cooperation to develop the laboratories in Atbara, ‎River Nile State, in line with international standards and upgrade them ‎into a regional center for mineral testing and analysis. The initiative ‎aims to keep pace with the expansion of Sudan’s mining sector and ‎open up opportunities to provide technical services to neighboring ‎countries.‎

The discussions took place during a meeting held at the Ministry of ‎Minerals on Sunday. They focused on strengthening the laboratories’ ‎technical and technological capabilities and modernizing their services ‎to meet the needs of the mining sector, improve testing quality, and ‎ensure greater accuracy in analytical results used in exploration, ore ‎evaluation, and mineral project development.‎

The Minister welcomed cooperation with the Chinese company, ‎affirming the ministry’s support for efforts to develop the ‎infrastructure of the minerals sector, particularly its laboratories and ‎testing facilities.‎

He noted that investment in this field is of strategic importance given ‎Sudan’s mineral potential and geographical location, which position ‎the country to provide specialized laboratory services to mining ‎markets across the region.‎

Taha explained that upgrading local laboratories in accordance with ‎international standards would reduce the need to send samples ‎abroad, saving time, effort, and costs. It would also help indigenize ‎technical services associated with the mining industry and strengthen ‎reliance on national capabilities.‎

The minister stressed that developing the Atbara laboratories ‎represents a key pillar in enhancing the competitiveness of Sudan’s ‎mining sector and the wider region by providing reliable technical data ‎to support investment and technical decisions and improve the ‎efficiency of mineral resource utilization.‎

For his part, the Chinese company’s representative said the company ‎had technical expertise and experience in analyzing rock and soil ‎samples. He expressed the company’s interest in entering into a ‎partnership with the Ministry of Minerals, represented by the General ‎Authority for Geological Research, to develop the central laboratory in ‎Atbara and establish another laboratory in line with international ‎standards. The facilities would serve Sudan’s needs and create ‎opportunities to provide services to friendly countries.‎
