NATO, Gulf Foreign Ministers to Discuss Strait of Hormuz Security and Regional Issues

Foreign ministers of NATO member states will meet with their counterparts from the Gulf countries on Tuesday on the sidelines of the alliance's summit in Ankara to discuss security developments in the Strait of Hormuz and other regional issues, including a joint French-British proposal to launch a multinational maritime mission, amid Iran's continued rejection of the initiative.

The meeting comes weeks after tensions in the strategic waterway eased following a temporary peace agreement between the United States and Iran. Meanwhile, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) agency reported an incident involving an oil tanker east of Lima, Oman.

Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prévot said the security of the Gulf states is closely linked to Europe's security, stressing the importance of regional stability and energy security.
