Egyptian Network Sounds Alarm Over Deteriorating Health of Sudanese Refugee in Cairo

The Egyptian Network for Human Rights has reported that the health of Sudanese refugee Mudathir Suleiman Mohamed Saleh (26) has worsened while in detention at Al-Obour Police Station in Cairo since his arrest on 11 February, despite holding valid “asylum seeker” documentation issued by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in December 2025.

The network said in a statement that the detainee suffers from a neurological condition requiring specialized medical care, and that the detention conditions, coupled with a lack of access to treatment and medication, have contributed to the deterioration of his health.

It called on Egyptian authorities to immediately release him and ensure he receives the necessary medical attention.
