Sudan’s Deputy Chief Justice, Dr. Moneir Mohamed Al-Hassan, affirmed that the principles advocated by the international community in the field of human rights do not conflict with the Islamic faith and the moral values of Sudanese society, except in very limited respects.

His remarks came while addressing the second consultative workshop for the preparation of the national report for the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) mechanism.

The workshop was organized by the Judiciary in cooperation with the Ministry of Justice and the National Human Rights Mechanism, in the presence of the Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers and senior officials from judicial, military and police institutions, as well as the Bar Association.

Al-Hassan explained that moving towards the consolidation of the rule of law requires the provision of effective judicial services and the protection of rights, based on religious, moral and legal obligations.
