The Wall Street Journal, one of the largest American newspapers, has, for the first time in history, published an article by a Sudanese president discussing the latest developments in the country.
The article by President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), General Abdel-Fattah al-Burhan, resonated widely in the U.S. media. The Wall Street Journal is an international daily English-language newspaper published by Dow Jones in New York, with Asian and European editions. Its daily circulation worldwide exceeds two million copies, with nearly 931,000 online subscribers, making it one of the most widely read newspapers in the United States.
President Al-Burhan affirmed his readiness to engage in constructive cooperation with the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump to achieve peace in Sudan.
He wrote in his article: “The Sudanese people have suffered enough. The world must stand with them, not with those who seek to divide the country. Sudan is ready to work constructively with President Trump’s administration and with all those who sincerely seek peace.”
He added: “We also want Sudan to reclaim its role as a positive regional power. In 2021, Sudan took a historic step by joining the Abraham Accords. We believe that peace and cooperation are the only path to a stable Middle East and Horn of Africa. This approach continues to guide our compass.”
Al-Burhan further emphasized: “Let me be clear: true peace in Sudan will not be achieved through military victory alone. It must be based on democracy, the rule of law, and the protection of our people’s rights. The Sudanese Armed Forces remain committed to the transition to civilian rule—a process disrupted by war but never abandoned. Our people deserve the opportunity to choose their leaders and determine their future.”
