Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ambassador Mohi-Eddin Salem welcomed the visit of the African Union ambassadors and Peace and Security Council delegation to Khartoum, describing it as historic following the liberation of the capital and restoration of security and stability.
Speaking after the delegation’s meeting with the Prime Minister, government members, and representatives of political and civil forces, Salem said the visit would allow the delegation to witness firsthand the scale of destruction caused by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia.
He noted that representatives of several political forces and parties attended the meeting and that a short documentary documenting the militia’s crimes and violations was screened.
For his part, Ambassador Mohamed Khalid, Algeria’s Permanent Representative to the AU and Chairperson of the Peace and Security Council for August, affirmed the Union’s solidarity with Sudan and its people.
He said the AU would support Sudan’s efforts to restore security and stability and safeguard its unity and territorial integrity.
Khalid also reaffirmed the Peace and Security Council’s commitment to the AU principles of sovereignty, national unity, and non-interference in member states’ internal affairs.
