Foreign Minister Reiterates Government’s Rejection of Humanitarian Truce

Sudan Minister of Foreign Minister and International Cooperation Moh-Eddin Salem on Friday reiterated the government’s rejection of a humanitarian truce, saying Sudan had submitted an initiative to the United Nations Security Council calling for the assembly and disarmament of Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia members.

Speaking during a meeting with the Sudanese community in Kuwait, the Foreign Minister said Sudan was entering a new phase focused on rebuilding the country and arranging social reconciliation to prevent an outbreak of “revenge.” He noted that recovery from the effects of the war was closely linked to “healing hearts and minds.”

He said the period of non-recognition of the government had not lasted long, pointing to the recent visit by a delegation from the African Union Peace and Security Council to Khartoum and its meeting with the President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) at the Republican Palace as evidence of this.

“Others will come as well, and we will compel everyone to recognize [the government],” he said.
