Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim warned of escalating foreign interventions in Sudan, asserting that such interference not only fuels the conflict but also undermines any serious efforts toward a political settlement.
In remarks to Al Jazeera in Addis Ababa, Ibrahim stated that there is “clear evidence” of external actors being involved in deepening the Sudanese crisis, noting that the continuation of this approach prolongs the war and intensifies the suffering of civilians.
He added that Malaysia is following developments in Sudan with grave concern, urging all warring parties to halt hostilities immediately and engage in an inclusive political dialogue.
The Malaysian Prime Minister explained that he discussed the Sudanese file during his meetings with Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and the Chairperson of the African Union Commission. He said all sides agreed on the need for a ceasefire and for creating the conditions required to launch a political process that would bring the war to an end.
Ibrahim affirmed that Malaysia stands with the Sudanese people in their pursuit of peace and stability.
