Sudan's Ambassador to Türkiye, Nader Al-Tayeb, said there are similarities between the coup attempt Türkiye experienced on July 15, 2016, and the events that erupted in Sudan on April 15, 2023, arguing that both involved support for what he described as terrorist organizations and foreign interference.
Speaking at the “10th Anniversary of July 15” symposium organized by the SETA Foundation, and in remarks to TRT Arabic, Al-Tayeb said that the commander of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia, according to his account, had assured the government that he would not stage a coup against the legitimate authorities before later leading the rebellion.
The ambassador described the RSF as “a terrorist organization in every sense of the word,” adding that Sudan had closely followed Türkiye's experience in confronting the Gülen movement and had drawn lessons from it.
He said Sudan remains committed to ending the RSF rebellion, restoring state authority, and safeguarding the country's sovereignty and stability, adding that the Turkish and Sudanese peoples had united in defense of their respective nations.
