Sudan Urges Condemnation of Attacks on Civilian Facilities and Support for Voluntary Return and Early Recovery

Sudan’s Permanent Representative in Geneva, Ambassador Hassan Hamid Hassan, urged condemnation of attacks on civilian infrastructure, including electricity and water facilities, health centres, and schools, warning that such attacks undermine stability and recovery efforts. He also stressed that resolving the displacement crisis requires ending external interference and support for the rebel militia, while backing national efforts to restore peace, stability, and recovery.

He called for international support for voluntary return and early recovery efforts while addressing the opening session of the 38th session of the Standing Committee on Programmes and Finance of the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

The Ambassador said more than 3.3 million internally displaced persons (IDPs) and nearly one million Sudanese from countries of asylum have voluntarily returned to their areas of origin. He highlighted government efforts to restore security, reopen facilities, and provide basic services despite extensive damage to infrastructure.
