Sudan Advances Digital Partnerships at WSIS Forum 2026

Sudan continued its participation in the WSIS Forum 2026 under the leadership of Minister of Digital Transformation and Communications, Eng. Ahmed Al-Dirdiri Ghandour, through a series of high-level meetings aimed at advancing the country's digital transformation and post-war reconstruction agenda while expanding regional and international partnerships.

The minister participated in the forum's ministerial session on global digital cooperation, artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure, and digital inclusion. He stressed that digital transformation is a national priority to build more efficient institutions, expand access to public services, and position Sudan as a trusted digital bridge between Africa and the wider world.

He called for practical partnerships to support developing and conflict-affected countries through capacity building, stronger data ecosystems, expanded digital infrastructure, and sustainable financing to translate digital strategies into tangible results.

On the sidelines of the forum, Ghandour met his Egyptian counterpart, Eng. Raafat Hindi, Chair of WSIS Forum 2026, to discuss cooperation in training, capacity building, and the exchange of technical and institutional expertise to strengthen Sudan's telecommunications and ICT workforce.

He also met with African Telecommunications Union (ATU) Secretary-General John Omo to discuss cooperation in digital infrastructure, regional connectivity, digital transformation, and preparations for upcoming regional and international telecommunications events.

In separate meetings, the minister held talks with South Africa's Deputy Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, Mondli Gungubele, on cooperation in telecommunications, digital transformation, cybersecurity, digital infrastructure, and capacity building. He also met with Algeria's Minister of Communications and Estonia's Minister of Digital Transformation to exchange views on digital priorities and strengthen regional and international cooperation.

Sudan said its participation in the second day of the WSIS Forum 2026 reflects its commitment to building practical partnerships that strengthen national capacities, expand digital infrastructure, and support service delivery and post-war reconstruction.
