The Federal Minister of Health, Professor Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, held a special meeting today in Port Sudan with Dr. Siddig Al-Obied, Executive Director on the Board of the African Development Bank (AfDB), to discuss support for Sudan’s health sector.
Dr. El-Beed confirmed that the AfDB has allocated $70 million to strengthen and expand health services in Sudan during the next phase of development.
Minister Ibrahim said the funding will support integrated health projects designed to ensure sustainability, meet citizens’ needs, and build human capacity. He expressed gratitude to the Bank’s management for the commitment and to the Ministry of Finance for facilitating funding channels.
The meeting reviewed Sudan’s current health situation, future plans, and the Ministry’s experience collaborating with partners and donors, including the shift from emergency humanitarian initiatives to long-term developmental programs. Discussions also highlighted regional projects targeting public health, epidemic control, and specialized medical services.
Attendees included the Director-General of Emergency and Epidemic Control, the Director-General of International Health, and a representative from the Ministry of Finance, who stressed the importance of coordinated efforts to maximize the impact of available funding.
