Sudanese human rights lawyer Dr. Mohamed Al-Zain announced that he has filed a formal complaint against President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby (“Mahamat Kaka”), and Rapid Support Forces (RSF) commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (“Hemedti”), accusing them of direct complicity in war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in Sudan. The move has been described by observers as an unprecedented step in the pursuit of international legal accountability.
According to the draft complaint presented by Dr. Al-Zain, the militia's actions extended beyond killing and looting to systematic enslavement crimes. The complaint states that the RSF abducted Sudanese girls from Khartoum and central Sudan and sold them openly in markets in Ed-Daein and other parts of Darfur, describing these acts as among the gravest forms of modern-day slavery.
