Al-Gezira Health Insurance Coverage Reaches 78.8%, Enrolling More Than 3.6 Million Beneficiaries

The National Health Insurance Fund in Al-Gezira State has reported that population coverage has risen to 78.8 percent, representing more than 3.6 million beneficiaries.

The announcement coincided with the launch of a free medical camp in Al-Nuwaila area of South Al-Gezira Locality, organized in partnership with Makkah Eye Hospital and Al-Walidayin (Parents) General Surgery Hospital. A mobile unit was also deployed to issue and renew health insurance cards.

Health Insurance Fund officials said the program aims to expand access to healthcare, indigenize specialized medical services, and reduce the need for referrals, with additional medical camps scheduled to continue through the end of the year.

The Fund also disclosed plans to bring Al-Gezira Scheme farmers under the health insurance umbrella, further expanding coverage among one of the state's key population groups.

The medical camp drew significant demand, with more than 400 patients attending ophthalmology clinics and over 60 patients visiting general surgery clinics. Patients received examinations, treatment, surgical procedures, and medical consultations free of charge.
