Khartoum (Nabaa Sudan) – Intisar Fadlallah: Darfur Regional Governor Minni Arko Minawi has rejected linking the delivery of humanitarian aid to Sudan to a truce, saying the government opened the country’s borders, airports and crossing points to humanitarian organisations three years ago.
Speaking at a meeting with journalists today, Sunday, Minawi said the authorities had enabled humanitarian organisations to access areas under government control, those controlled by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia, as well as other areas outside the control of either side. He questioned the rationale for making a truce a condition for aid delivery, given what he described as Sudan’s openness to humanitarian relief.
He pointed to overcrowded displacement camps and lower rainfall levels this year, warning that humanitarian conditions could deteriorate further. He also accused unnamed parties of exploiting the declaration of famine to pave the way for international intervention, without presenting evidence to support the accusation.
Minawi rejected signing agreements with the RSF militia, warning that dealing with the entity known as “Tasis State” could entrench multiple centres of authority and threaten Sudan’s unity.
