Geneva (Nabaa Sudan) – The General Assembly of the International Civil Defence Organisation (ICDO) has re-elected Sudan by consensus to a new term on the organisation’s Executive Council, extending until 2030. The decision was taken during the Assembly’s 27th session, held in Geneva on October 29.
Sudan’s delegation was headed by its Permanent Representative in Geneva, Ambassador Hassan Hamed Hassan, who called during the General Assembly proceedings for Sudan to be given priority in the organisation’s programmes. He also urged support for efforts to rehabilitate civil defence capabilities and provide firefighting and rescue equipment, in addition to strengthening early warning systems and emergency operations rooms across the states.
The Permanent Representative expressed Sudan’s desire to enhance technical cooperation, training and the exchange of expertise in ways that would strengthen the National Civil Defence Council, protect citizens, restore services, and create conditions conducive to safe returns and recovery.
