Khartoum (Nabaa Sudan) – Sudan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has affirmed that perpetrators of crimes against civilians will not enjoy immunity or escape accountability, stressing that achieving lasting peace in the country requires upholding justice and holding those responsible for violations to account.
The statement came in a condemnation issued by the Ministry following attacks on El-Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan State, by suicide drones on Friday morning. The Ministry held the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia responsible for the attacks.
According to preliminary information, the Ministry said, the attacks resulted in injuries among civilians and damage to homes and property. It described the targeting of residential neighbourhoods and civilian facilities as a violation of international humanitarian law and a war crime warranting criminal accountability.
The Ministry called on the United Nations Security Council, the United Nations, the African Union and relevant international organisations to take urgent measures to halt attacks on civilians and hold those responsible to account. It also called for an end to the flow of weapons, drones and other forms of military support to entities using them to commit violations.
The Ministry affirmed that the government had directed the relevant authorities to provide emergency medical care to the injured, deliver assistance to those affected, document the attacks and preserve evidence in preparation for the necessary legal proceedings at both the national and international levels.
